Crafts & Morehead Planetarium: On Saturday, December 15th, 2007, students from the Heritage Park Learning Center celebrated their accomplishments from the past year by making photo keepsakes and enjoying a pizza brunch. Afterward, we took in a show at Morehead Planetarium and brushed up on solar system knowledge!

Raven Rock State Park: On Saturday, November 10th, 2007, Heritage Park headed out to see the fall colors at Raven Rock State Park. We hiked down to see the impressive geology, and picnicked by the river. A turtle and a millipede were discovered along the way. Once we headed up the overlook, the group got to try out their skills with binoculars and found 3 turtles basking in the sun on a rock in the river.

Lake Crabtree Canoeing and Big Sweep: On Saturday, October 6th, 2007, ICO participated in the Big Sweep clean up at Lake Crabtree and then spent the afternoon canoeing on the lake.

BugFest & Umstead Park: RICH Park and Heritage Park combined for a September outing to the NC Museum of Natural Sciences for BugFest and an afternoon in Umstead Park. At Bugfest, everyone really liked trying the bug food!

Fort Fisher: On August 11th, 2007, the kids from RICH Park and Heritage enjoyed a hot summer day at the beach. It was hard to get them out of the waves, but a few ventured ashore to try kite flying and sand exploring.

Hanging Rock State Park: On July 14-15th, 2007, RICH Park and Heritage Park combined for a camping outing to Hanging Rock. The kids were amazed by the mountains, waterfalls and the view from Hanging Rock! Swimming, the camp fire and s'mores were highlights of the trip.

Blue Jay Point County Park & Falls Lake: On June 16th, 2007, Heritage Park and RICH Park joined together for exploring the wild in Blue Jay Point County Park, followed by swimming at Beaver Dam. At Blue Jay, we learned the difference between blue birds and blue jays; during a scavenger hunt we found feathers, bird nests, animal tracks, and tiny frogs and turtles. As a finale to the hot summer afternoon, the group cooled off in Falls Lake with lots of "monkey-in-the-middle," floating lessons, and jumping off of Paul's shoulders into the water.
