The Raleigh ICO program started more than twelve years ago. Since it began, Triangle ICO has worked with several youth agencies to conduct about 140 outings for more than 1,600 local youth. While the organizations have changed over time, the goals are still the same: to provide fun and educational outdoor experiences to children who might not otherwise have them.
ICO currently works through the following organization:
-
Heritage Park Learning Center: ICO began working with the Heritage Park Learning Center, part of Communities In Schools of Wake County (CISWC), in November 2006. CIS of Wake County is the major partner that works with the Wake County School System to help students succeed in school and in life. The organization operates on-site school programs as well as learning centers in six of Wake County’s largest public housing communities – ensuring that children receive mentoring, training and support at school and in their home environments. ICO will predominantly be working with 4th and 5th graders on outings, as well as other interested students up to 8th grade.
